Namibian Medicine Price List (NMPL)
The Namibian Medicine Price List (NMPL) is a reference pricing system that uses a benchmark
(reference) price for generically similar products (e.g. the same active ingredient but different
formulation or combination products with similar constituents).
The fundamental principle of any reference pricing system is that it does not restrict a member's
choice of medicines, but instead limits the amount that will be paid. The aim is to ensure that
there will always be products available in Namibia in each NMPL group, which will be fully reimbursed
i.e. there will always be products available that will not invite an additional co-payment
from the patient.
Although the reference price has been set for a specific pack size (quantity) it will apply pro rata
to any other number of units supplied.
